im currently using the (walmart) remington 550 count golden bullet ,but i generally prefer federal amunition in my shotguns when im not using reloads.anyway i want to try the 550 count box of federal (also seen in walmart) and was wondering what everyone else was having consistant success with in their remington 552's . 22LR only please and thanks for your input

I don’t have any experience with the federal .22 550 count box in a Remington 552 but I do shoot it out of the Marlin I have, and have no problems with them.

I use my 552s to shoot shorts for squirrels. I have many .22 rifles to shoot LRs. I used to use Remington .22 short HPs but, I think that they don't make them any more.
I ordered 500 rounds of CCI short HPs and they run well and are very accurate.

In my remington 552 (speedmaster) my pet round is CCI blazers because i did not have one fail out of 500 rounds and they are powerful enough to pull the action back every time.

My 552 has never had a single failure with CCI Mini-Mags in over 30 years, or any other CCI ammo I've tried. Remington GB causes trouble because it's so dirty it gums things up.

I just shot my 552 at the range last night and had zero failures of any kind with the following: Remington GB 22 Short, Blazer 22LR, Federal plain blue box 22 Long. I also like to "stress-test" my rifles by using a mixed lot of random cartridges. When ever I get to the end of a box with odd lots, such as shooting a six-gun that doesn't divide a box of 50 equally, the extras get put in a small box. Then I'll grab any random 15 rounds out of that and load them. The 552 ran thru them all like butter. Dirty? I've never found Remington GB to be dirty. Now Blazer black-and-silver box .... THAT'S DIRTY!!!!
