A 14” Non-NFA 870? Remington’s New TAC-14 – NRA 2017
by Michael O. Humphries on April 30, 2017 Have you always wanted a shorty shotgun but don’t want to deal with the whole NFA hassle? Then take a look at the new 12 gauge Model 870 TAC-14 from Remington, an exciting new non-NFA shotgun with a 14-inch barrel. Technically classed as a “firearm,” the TAC-14 achieves its non-NFA status by employing a “virgin” receiver never attached to a shoulder stock and also having an overall length greater than 26 inches. The TAC-14 packs a lot of power in a very compact package. The TAC-14 employs a Shockwave Raptor curved pistol grip. Key to the overall length of the TAC-14 is the use of a Shockwave Raptor pistol grip that is gently curved rather than featuring a vertical cant. This design also likely helps mitigate recoil (which could be substantial depending on how you choose to feed this 3-inch chambered 12 gauge). Rounding out the package is a cylinder bore 14-inch barrel with bead sight and a Magpul M-LOK forend. The result is a very compact yet very powerful firearm. Following the trend blazed by the Mossberg Shockwave, the new TAC-14 from Remington gives Model 870 fans their own chance to own an ultra-short shotgun that will definitely get some attention on the range. Wondering about legality is some areas Shooter. Seems like a lot will frown on this.

Pretty pointless as a HD weapon, but it could at least be an easier way to get a range-toy shorty than registering an SBS. Room under a 14" barrel on an 870 for a +1 extension, too. I suppose this was bound to happen, given how much press the Mossberg version got.

Exactly...!! While I'm sure it clears Federal regulations at this junction in time, I myself see no need for it other than a novelty buy. |

Myself included Shooter. Think my 1100 suits my purposes for Trap much better. LOL

Amen Brother...

With one of those I could be the cool guy at the shooting range.
Other than that it is pretty dope. Sorry. But I think it is a non-starter for me. Dave (nitesite)

It is quite concealable though...

Sort of like the Mossberg Shockwave. Decent gun(s) but you gotta really want it.

I want one, but wish it had sling swivels so I could carry it under my winter coat.

Secret Service like.
That would be pretty cool. Talk about a confidence builder.

I pretty much turned an old half rotted stump to powder. I love this shotgun !! Does anyone know if the smaller half shells will work in it?

I bought one a month ago. I went on Magpul's website and bought the forend strap, like the one that comes on the Mossberg. I thought it would help me hold onto the forend better. Installed it using 2 screws on each end through the folded tip of the strap and into the forend. I haven't shot it yet. I am a Remington fan and collector, receiving my first 870 pump in 1959. I've owned hundreds of Remington firearms in the last 58 years. Bought it only as a novelty, and I figure it will go the way of the "Street sweeper" and be recalled by the B.A.T.F.E. some day. One thing very humorous I discovered when I was taking the owner's manual out of the box before I put the box away in the attic. What would you think could be the most ridiculous accessory Remington could include with this gun? The green, plastic, 2-round magazine plug to meet the federal migratory bird laws was in the box. Anyone for duck, goose, or dove hunting with their Tac-14? Make sure you put that green plastic plug in the magazine! CRAZY!!

I seem to shoot mine quite well as it comes from the factory, with managed recoil shells. My neighbor liked mine so much, he bought one. I have three other Remington shotguns, but this is by far my favorite, now. I agree the plug is a hoot.
