Just inherited Speedster 552. Barrel code appears to be CP 68. Can't seem to find a serial number. Where do I look? Thanks.

Sure wish Remington would just go by serial no. from the get -go. Some of the marks on barrel code crap are tough to make out. My 1100 looks like a O or a Q for month-year of manufacture.

The serial number on mine is on the left side of the gun, under Remington model 552 Speedmaster. This is on the gun itself, not on the barrel. The barrel has some marks and numbers on both sides, at the rear where it attaches to the gun.

My new-to-me Speedmaster 552 has the serial # on the LHS of the receiver. My barrel date code is "KY", which I assume is May 1974 not May 2004, but how would one tell? Also, there are markings just ahead of the receiver on the barrel LHS that are [32] where the [ and ] are vertical lines. Thoughts?
