I have an RM-380 which is just over a year old with a low round count. On Thursday when changing mags the mag would not lock into the gun. Turned the gun sideways and the magazine release button fell out of the gun. It will go in from either side and will fall out from either side. First time that I have ever seen one do that. Will call Remington tomorrow. A little disappointed. :?

OK...not sending it back at this time. Went to the shop where I bought the little pistol and looked at another one. Figured out how the release was held in by a spring. While holding the magazine button in the correct position I pushed down on the spring with a plastic dowel and it clicked into place. Seems to have solved the problem. Can't say it won't happen again but for now it's good.

I just had this happen on my new, unfired RM380. The mag release button and the spring are in my hand, but it is not obvious what i might do to reinstall? Any hints, photos or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Did you do this from the outside or the inside? I'm curious also just in case it happens to mine. Seems like a simple, 2 minute fix!

I had a great time at the range today, running close to 100 rounds through my RM380. I bought it just 3 months ago, and this takes my round count to about 300. When I got home, I stripped it and cleaned it and noticed an extra plastic piece on the table. Hanging on the cleaning cloth was the spring.

I see which direction the button goes in the gun, to catch in the guide slot... but I cann see how the spring fits (and comes out so easily). Does it go INSIDE the vertical slot in the button? Should I remove my grip panels to get a better view?

So amazing!!!

I was able to indeed slip the spring DOWN inside that vertical slot, but it bottoms out against the frame instead of extending THROUGH the button.

It is functional, but I am concerned that the fix is short term.

I put the 380 in a vise and locked back the slide... barrel pointed down.
A little more force and the spring slid through the button and feels as good as factory new.
I will contact Remington none the less and find out if there is a better solution.

Pictures available if anyone wants.

starman,
I could really use those pictures, if you still have them?

Same problem here---just fell out while cleaning. Any further pics or instruction would be appreciated.

What comes first --- button or spring and how.

Thanks

Sorry for the delay on the photos. For some reason I missed the replies in e-mail.

It's easier to push the spring in when the muzzle is pointed downwards.
If you have a wooden dowel (I was hesitant to use a pencil eraser) it might work better than the cleaning kit brass extension rod that I used.

Never the less, I've been less aggressive when cleaning the magazine well, and the gun functions GREAT!

I should do something about those photos...
Hmmmm...

Never the less, I found an interesting website for parts:
https://www.midwestgunworks.com/remingt ... parts.html

They have the mag release spring AND mag release button as well
