I know this subject has been done to death but......

I have had my two 1979 ish 1100's for several months now.
The Skeet model and the Field.
As far as I can make out the receivers are identical.

The Skeet model will shoot a wide selection of 7/8 oz shells all day long. Which is nice as they're the cheapest
and lighter on the shoulder when teaching the kids.
The Skeet model will do this with all my 3 barrels , Full , Mod and Skeet.

However the Field model will shoot no lighter than 1 oz regardless of barrel fitted.

Therefore the issue I assume lies within the receiver ?

Not the end of the World and if it won't shoot 7/8 so be it but a bit of a head scratcher .

Any thoughts ?

I'm excited if I get consistent reliability with 1 1/8 oz 3 DRAM shells so I never expect to cycle 1 oz. My first thought would be to make sure the action spring tube is cleaned/oiled. Maybe compare action springs as well. Could the field spring be stronger? There's always the possibility of burrs in the receiver, etc. You didn't mention the symptom when it fails to cycle. That would probably help diagnose.

The mild 7/8 shells stay in the chamber whilst the hotter ones stick half way out of the ejection slot.
Both have new action springs.
Come to think of it I havn't I checked or cleaned the action spring tube.

If you are having trouble ejecting light loads a new action spring is going the wrong way. The only functional difference between a Skeet model and a field model is the Skeet barrel has larger ports. Everything else is supposed to be Identical. All the same part numbers.
Do both guns have the old two piece style piston and piston seal?
Are the action bars dragging more on one than the other? Look for anything dragging.
The 1100 (except Skeet and new Sporting models) was designed to shoot anything from 1-1/8 ounces on up. Many will shoot lighter loads, but some won't without enlarging the ports or getting a new Sporting barrel - which also has larger ports.
What could have happened... did.

Both have the old 2 piece rings,
Will strip it down this week and have a close look at the innards and fit old spring.
I will get back to you with the outcome .
Thanks for your input.

Full strip down , oiled greased and as far as I could see everything 100%.
Out today shooting skeet and high tower and found that the the 1100 funtioned perfectly with a mimimum load of 1oz.
It won't work with 7/8 oz and that's it.
A positive result in that I've established the lightest load it will shoot.
Great fun with my youngest shooting 36 x 50 second time out.

Thanks again for your welcome input.

Update
Mystery solved.
The reason the Skeet Model can cycle 7/8 & recently tested 3/4 oz is that it still has the old , perhaps original action spring.
I know this because I found the new spring in a box under the stairs.Another senior moment !
So for light loads. Leave your old spring in !
