Here's something that can be done as an alternative to replacing the hammer spring. I machined a new spring seat that is (edit to 1.5mm) shorter above the retaining pin. It didn't make a big drop in trigger pull weight but a noticeable one and did do what I hoped it would. It eliminated that harsh spring stack during the last 20% of travel. I don't have a trigger pull gauge that goes that high but when I get one I'll test the difference between new and original. I also drilled and tapped it so I could thread in a 3mm bolt to use as a handle for install, made it much easier.

I have another pull gauge coming this week so I will do a comparison and report back.

In the mean time I took it to the range today for its first run and must say this pistol is fantastic. The long trigger pull is a non issue. Fired 100 rounds of target ammo, Remington and Perfecta and also 12 rounds of Ruger ARX. I can tell you that this pistol is as accurate as both my Shield 9 and 45 and just as much fun.

Here's the target from the very first 18 rounds. 6" target @ 10 yards.
First 6 I fired using the flush mag and were a bit all over the place but the next 12 were fired using the pinky extension mag for better control.

Okay, so I did some testing today and here are the results.

I made two hammer spring seats, one was 1.5mm shorter and the other 2mm shorter than the stock plastic seat.

Stock out of the box, trigger pull was 8 pounds, 10 ounces.

With the 1.5mm shorter seat installed, trigger pull - 7 pounds, 12 ounces. This is the one that was test fired from the above post. 112 rounds with no fails of any kind.

With the 2.0mm shorter seat installed, trigger pull - 7 pounds, 7 ounces. Not test fired yet.

Here's a pic of the new and stock original for comparison in relation to the retaining pin

Tested the 2mm short seat today. Fired 50 rounds of Perfecta without any fails. Primer strikes look good. I checked the trigger pull again when I got home from the range and it was consistent at 7lb-6oz to 7lb-7oz.

Very impressive work. I had to do a spring change or get the machine and tools to make my own. No doubt what was less expensive as a solution. Still, I was fascinated by your conceived solution and work.

Thanks Richard,
Another option would be to simply sand/file down one side of the factory seat. Even though the seat is plastic the steel retaining pin is taking most of the pressure. The seat is double sided so in case of a screw-up it can be reversed, no harm no foul. The aftermarket SS seat can also be modded the same way.

Just a quick follow-up to the thread. Several hundred rounds fired since the mod and the pistol has still been 100% reliable. Trigger pull settled in at 7 pounds 2 ounces average.

Never fired it with the heavy out of box trigger pull. First range trip was with the mod done so I have nothing to compare it to. However, the accuracy has been as good as my compact pistols, Shield 45, 9mm and, better than my R51.

I’ll have to try the spring change. Mine is not anywhere near my other pistols.

What is the diameter of the stock for the hammer spring retainer? I haven't got my T7 torx driver to take off the grips yet so can't check mine myself.

Haven't been here in a while, and apologize for the missing pictures (greedy picture hosting site) so I'll give a quick update/followup to this modification with a few pictures.

Recently did some retesting of the trigger with both the modified spring seat, along with the original. I don't track the number of rounds fired, but it's been a bunch and then some. The trigger has really settled in nicely at 6 pounds with the modified seat. With the original put back in, it is averaging 6lb-15oz which is actually lower than when I originally tested the pull with the new shorter seat.

Also, for those worried about having light primer strikes with such a reduced spring pressure, don't be. I tested several CCI Magnum primers, in unloaded cases of course, and all fired on the first pull with a normal depth firing pin dimple. For those that don't know, CCI primers are known to be about the hardest available and are the most apt to have FTF(fail to fire) issues.
