I bought a Remington R1 1911 a couple of months ago and have been breaking it in with Winchester 230 gr fmj and some Federal 230 fmj aluminum case that I had before I started reloading. After breake in I want to use in my edc either Hornady Critical Defence 185 gr FTX or Legend PRO copper hollow point 185 gr. but neather will feed in either with my Remington 7 rd or 8 rd mags.

I recently made it to the range with my new R1-S. Other than ball ammo, I had some Hornady Custom 200gr that I use for my EDC Shield and ran 2 mags (14 rounds) through the R1. All fed, fired and ejected without issue. They were much more accurate than the ball ammo I was using, 230gr Federal AE and Perfecta. If you try the Hornady Custom be sure you get item #9112. They also make a 200gr in +P which is #9113 and some online stores don't say it's +P.

I'd go with .45 Acp. Seriously, I've never had a problem with any ammo in my R1. Even Winchester White Box.
