Well worth restoring and so far looks like a super job of the wood. Cannot wait to see the new bluing. I would do the same if I find one. these older 22s sure look like a old fashioned quality build one can be proud to own. Thanks for showing.

I found a 510 that was in OK shape and shot very well. Pondered about restore as I was afraid it might affect accuracy.
Refinished stock. Steamed out dents and soaked several time with denatured alcohol. It did a good job removing the old oil finish, I guess linseed. Refinished with tung oil and it looked great. A few years later had it reblued by a 'smith and it looks like new. Shiny with crisp lettering. Still a tack driver. |

I have (2) 510 targetmasters and (1)512 scoremaster, nice 22s

No wonder so many admire and search out these vintage 22s. So well made and often can be had for a very reasonable price. Compared to junk like that new Winchester Wildcat made in some dump of a country they look and are custom guns!!

Looks great! Did you fall into a truckload of 500-series orphans? NRA Life, NAHC Life, Retired USN

no My Brother bought three of these model 512s all in need of refinishing, then my Uncle gave me a model 513 that is in pieces...then a friend inherited his Father's model 511 Here is the second model 512 belonging to my Brother: It wasn't in too bad of shape, the stock needed some cleaning up. Then I polished and reblued most of the steel parts Before and after pictures blog posts https://tincanbandit.blogspot.com/2019/ ... 512_7.html https://tincanbandit.blogspot.com/2019/ ... 12_15.html https://tincanbandit.blogspot.com/2019/ ... n-512.html |

Wow back to looking like works of art! No skimping on the build and finish of the vintage stuff. Did a great job on em for sure. Brought back some treasures to their original appearance or even better.

Here is my friends model 511 that he inherited from his Father.
He brought me the parts about 3/4s polished, so I finished the polishing, blued them and painted the ready-fire and safe indicators as well as did some nitre bluing on some small parts This is the result blog post: https://tincanbandit.blogspot.com/2018/ ... aster.html |
